Giclee Process
Giclee (pronounced zhee-clay), a French term meaning "to spray," is a process that utilizes the IXIA printer, the most sophisticated digital printer for fine art to date. Pushing the leading edge of fine art printmaking, digital printmaking has earned its reputation as one of the most creative mediums available to today's working artists. Its capabilities of range and responsiveness are virtually unparallel in the fine art world. The prints it produces are well known for their colour density, saturation and brilliance.
One of the defining attributes of the IXIA printer is its ability to print on fine art papers. The apparent continuous tone spray of water- soluble dye based inks reacts distinctly to each paper's surface, allowing a diverse spectrum of intensity and depth.
Giclee printing has many advantages over other printmaking methods:
Print-on-demand
Each piece is individually produced allowing you to order one reproduction at a time if desired, so the artist is not obligated to finish an edition. You can order prints as needed without large up-front costs and storage problems associated with offset lithography. This allows you to test market a new idea or image.
Control of your Future
Giclee printing affords you more control of your career by giving you the ability to start self-publishing fine art reproductions in modest quantities. Artists can build inventory slowly over time in response to the market. |
